Drug Interaction Zyprexa
chantix drug interactions?
I just got prescribed Chantix so I can quit smoking. I have a few questions about the other medications I’m taking and if there will be any bad side effects.
First off, I am Bipolar I so I take Depakote ER, Seroquel XR, and Zyprexa, every night. I am also prescribed Suboxone because I am a recovering heroin addict (no rude comments please). On the box of the Chantix it says “Call your doctor if you experience mood changes, sadness, depression or fear”. This somewhat worries me because I already am a manic depressive. Even though I’m on medication to control this, would it affect me?
I couldn’t find the answer to this online so I figured it was worth a shot.
Thanks for any help!!
Its good to get away from using tobacco, but I would not use chantix as its mental effects are unpredictable. You would be much safer to use a nicotine product.
Your using two antipsycotic drugs Seroquel XR and Zyprexa, as mentioned in the FDA label information the overlap of using antipsycotics together should be minimized. If I were to drop one it would be Zyprexa. Each drug does promote diabetes so the lowest dose you can get by with the better.

Depakote ER promotes liver disease, so avoid alcohol and tylenol type products containing acetaminophen. Lithium would be a safer choice but long term lithium use is hard on the kidneys. The drug companies should have some protocal to let people get off lithium to give the kidneys a vacation, but I have seen no plan to that effect published in the literature.
here is the chantix FDA literature, it will answer your interaction questions:

Use protest costumes NOT weapons when taking it to the extreme!
Zyprexa ten dollars a pill was my cost 1998
Prescribed off label for PTSD was ineffective
Gave me diabetes cost thousands in co-pays made me sleepy
*FIVE at FIVE*
The Zyprexa antipsychotic drug, whose side effects can include weight gain and diabetes, was sold for “children in foster care, people who have trouble sleeping, elderly in nursing homes.”
*Five at Five* was the Zyprexa sales rep slogan, meaning 5mg dispensed at 5pm would keep patients quiet. Google * Eli Lilly Zyprexa * and read the links. This is for a product that we put in our children’s bodies.
I took Zyprexa it gave me diabetes and was as addictive as tobacco. How so? Because withdrawal is accompanied by severe insomnia for 6 weeks.
